what this place is

Free Holler Farm is a restorative retreat tucked inside a lush Appalachian hollow at the base of Bear Mountain, a quiet, protected piece of ground for people ready to slow down, reconnect, and remember what they were made for.

Our work weaves together nervous system restoration, somatic practice, nutritional therapy, reflection, and unhurried time in creation, held inside a hollow whose name carries a long history of freedom, and built on the belief that body, mind, and soul were intentionally designed for wholeness.

Our Approach

Whole-person restoration, rooted in the land.

Every retreat is shaped by four quiet pillars, the same ones that guide how we live and steward this land.

01

Nervous System Restoration

Trauma-informed somatic work, breath, and the kind of stillness that signals safety to the body, so the system can finally drop out of survival and into coherence.

02

Nutritional Therapy

Locally sourced, root-cause-informed meals. Real food, prepared with intention, supporting digestion, energy, mood, and the body's own intelligent design.

03

Embodied Reflection

Guided practice, paradox prayer, journaling, and reverent quiet. Space to reconnect with body, breath, truth, and the God who made each of them.

04

Nature Immersion

Daily contact with creek, woods, and sky. Here, creation is not the backdrop, it is the medicine, and the most patient teacher we know.

The History

The name Free Holler
carries a legacy of freedom.

In Appalachia, a holler is a hollow between mountains, a sheltered seam in the land. This particular hollow became known, generations ago, as a place where enslaved people were brought into these mountains and were free on this land. A geography of refuge. A promise the ground itself remembered.

The homestead here was built in the 1970s, but you feel the spirit of what came before whispering through the trees. The land is protected. You feel it the moment the road narrows and the woods close in. We are simply the next caretakers, keeping that legacy of freedom alive in a different, deeply human way.

The Creekside Cabin, a small red cabin at the edge of the woods

the cabin

A small red door in the woods.

Sleeps two. Tucked into the trees not far from the main house. Close enough to feel held, far enough to feel free.

Simple cooking, linen sheets, a porch built for nothing at all. At night, no city lights, only moonlight, frogs, and a sky thick with stars.

nature is hugging you

By Day

Birdsong from first light. Butterflies in the wildflowers. Sunlight through the pines. Wind moving in the trees like breath.

By Night

No city lights. Only moonlight and a sky thick with stars. Frogs, insects, fire crackling, a darkness so complete the body remembers it is safe.

The kind of quiet that lets your nervous system finally remember how to rest.
